Science Education
We support organizations that share our passion for advancing science education, especially to encourage the next generation of scientists. Since our founding, we have worked with dozens of organizations to help support science education through our donation of resources, laboratory equipment and knowledge about the important role science education plays in the future of our industry. Our support of science education starts with young students and continues through the graduate level.
Cephalon partners with museums that make learning fun for kids – such as the Utah Science Center in Salt Lake City, which will soon open The Leonardo, and The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, which received from Cephalon the largest single corporate donation in the Institute’s history of $4 million for a new signature exhibit on the brain, scheduled to open in 2012.
Cephalon has sponsored an internship program at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, which will engage high school students to create health content for YouthPhilly.org, a website targeted at their peers. These students will improve the design of the teen webpage, write articles, interview youth in the community, produce videos, and use social media to educate and inform their peers about important health issues.
Cephalon supports Philadelphia Academies Inc. in “Building 21st Century Skills” and is helping high school students learn about careers in the pharmaceutical industry. “Cephalon has provided critical start-up funding to launch the Biotechnology Academy at two Philadelphia public high schools, and also generously shares their industry expertise and connections. Because of Cephalon, the students' world view is now much larger – and as a result, they can set higher goals for themselves,” says Lisa J. Nutter, President.
