Health Advocacy

Cephalon partners with the community – patient groups, professional societies, consumer groups, the advocacy community – to build an awareness of health issues and options.

Most of our efforts in health advocacy involve educational initiatives, either programs we develop ourselves, or those we support by helping to fund the work of others.

One example is When Good Medicines Become Bad DrugsSM, a program designed to educate patients, caregivers and the public about the safe and responsible use of prescription medicines.

Cephalon contributes funding to support a number of independent health advocacy and education programs, including:

  • The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, a nonprofit organization best known for research-based national public education programs. The Partnership helps parents and families to prevent drug and alcohol use by children – and to find treatment when needed.
  • “Responsible Opioid Prescribing: A Physician's Guide,” a publication of The Federation of State Medical Boards that is distributed to physicians throughout the country by state medical boards.
  • Independent programs dedicated to educating healthcare professionals about the potential for abuse, addiction, diversion, and overdose of opioids – and ways to minimize the risk of occurrence.
  • Websites for reaching and forming online communities, including Emerging Solutions In Pain, an extensive site that educates clinicians on the complexities of managing chronic pain, and High Stakes, Young Lives, a continuing education activity for physicians, pharmacists and nurses primarily based on the insights from recovering teens on preventing prescription drug diversion.
  • The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Co-Pay Assistance Program, which provides co-pay or premium assistance to patients in need.
