Commitment to Integrity and Transparency
Cephalon fully supports transparency in our relationships with healthcare professionals as part of our effort to foster a better understanding of the critical role these vital relationships play in developing and bringing new medicines to market and in addressing the needs of patients.
Therefore, Cephalon has begun to make the financial nature of our relationships with healthcare professionals transparent to the public. In January 2010, we began posting fees Cephalon has made to healthcare professionals for speaking and consulting services for the previous 12 months. In March 2011, Cephalon plans to disclose all other items of value we provide to healthcare professionals, including meals and payments for participation in research studies. This disclosure will include all payments made from January 2010 onward.
Cephalon adheres to the code of conduct developed by PhRMA, a trade association representing the pharmaceutical industry. Called the PhRMA Code, it is intended to assure that pharmaceutical companies interact with healthcare professionals in a way that benefits patients and enhances the practice of medicine. Reducing Prescription Drug Misuse
Cephalon has a long history of developing programs to minimize potential risks associated with inappropriate use of prescription opioid pain medications. In conjunction with FDA, we have developed risk evaluation and mitigation strategies (REMS) for our medications and are we are striving to apply new technologies to help make the REMS processes more accessible to patients, pharmacists and physicians. Also, our When Good Medicines Become Bad DrugsSM advocacy program educations patients, caregivers and the public about the safe and responsible use of prescription medicines.
