Science Education

Cephalon takes great interest in promoting an appreciation for science through educational initiatives. We have worked with more than 100 organizations that share our passion for advancing science education, especially for the next generation of scientists.

Since our founding, we have helped support science education through our donation of resources, laboratory equipment and knowledge about the important role that science education plays in the future of our industry. In addition, our employees regularly volunteer to serve as science fair judges and mentors for budding scientists.

We are proud partners of both The Franklin in Philadelphia and the Utah Science Center in Salt Lake City, whose missions as science museums are to keep learning fun and engaging. Because we believe in lifelong learning, we support unique science education programs for adults. We are honored to partner with the National Constitution Center as presenting sponsor of the 2008 Speaker Series on Science and the Constitution. This three-part series brings nationally recognized leaders in science, public policy and the law together to address some of the most important scientific and legal questions of the day.

At the university level, Cephalon has made significant contributions to many institutions of higher learning, including the new medical school building at Temple University School of Medicine, as well as to the Harvard Medical School, where we endowed the Baldino Chair of Sleep Medicine.

To mark the retirement and recognize the significant contributions of long-time Cephalon Director Horst Witzel, we also have established the Witzel Award. This award includes a $25,000 grant and mentoring from Cephalon researchers, and is given each year to an outstanding graduate student in organic chemistry from the greater Philadelphia region.
